FAQs

What is Family law?

Family law covers a wide range of legal issues that arise in all sorts of circumstances involving different family members such as husbands and wives, cohabitees and parents and children.  Many matters can be resolved by agreement but when this is not possible applications may be made to the Family Court for a Judge or magistrates to decide the best outcome. Examples include:- divorce, applications to resolve financial issues and proceedings to decide the best arrangements for children.  Children cases include both private proceedings between parents and public proceedings when it is necessary for a Local Authority to go to court for care and supervision orders to protect children from risk of harm.
